QUEER CONSUMPTION OF ART, VISUAL CULTURE, & RAMBLINGS OF MY LIFE

CNN profiles Pace artist, Fred Wilson, and looks at how his career has been built by challenging people to “rethink history”…read more HERE.

He came to my school to speak to us and showcased some of his work.
It was greaaatttt.
One of my favorite speakers to be honest.
This is what he basically does; he goes to museums, go through their stuff and show case them in a way that really does make you stop and think. Whether it be like the above or when he writes descriptions/information of the works in a satirical way it’s, when I say thought provoking I mean, thought provoking.
For one of his first personal galleries he made a “fake” museum and hung up art from tribes he bought, of course, and for one of the descriptions for them it said something along the lines of, “Stolen from some tribe in Africa.”
At face value that seems harsh but think about it.
What are museums really comprised of?
Some of the viewers actually thought he was serious or that his mini fake museum was legit. It brought up this idea of his that led him to doing what he does now.
Anyways, what he does is great and he’s a pretty cool and sweet guy with awesome facial hair, look at it.

THAT IS FASCINATING AND AMAZING *A*

On point.
